Legalzoom

Just a fyi, for those looking for legal help on the cheap (generally all students), check out www.legalzoom.com for cheap and effective legal help. If your business has regulation-specific issues, geographic peculiarities (many international employees), or other non-standard operations then LegalZoom is not ideal. However, for almost any start-up, LegalZoom should suffice until you get enough traction to get the attention of an attorney, in which case they will work for free in hopes of getting paid back in the future and securing a long-term client.

  1. There's also another great company that can help out with specific legal questions/situations people may have. Check out lawpivot.com.

  2. Eric, thank you for great advice. I love Legalzoom. I would advise everyone starting their companies with a limited budget to use that resource. However, I think they work with you on incorporating the company and creating the pack of initial documents. I am not sure if they help you with patents.

    Thanks

  3. I wish I spoke to you before about this. My company Meerkat has been talking with WilmerHale, an LLP based in Palo Alto for the last few weeks about incorporating, filing patents, trademarks, copyrights and other legal advice. Legalzoom is awesome though, I will use it next startup without a doubt!
